This article will help you understand the difference between subdomains and folders (subdirectories), and how they work in Ubersuggest projects.
Understanding the Difference Between Subdomains and Subdirectories
A subdomain (e.g., example.neilpatel.com) operates as a separate site from the main domain (neilpatel.com). It can be managed independently and requires its own SEO strategy.
A folder or subdirectory (e.g., neilpatel.com/blog) is part of the main domain. It shares the domain’s SEO authority and is usually easier to manage within one unified site.
Important: In Ubersuggest, you can only add root domains and subdomains as projects. Folders or subdirectories cannot be added as individual projects.
How to Analyze Folders in Ubersuggest
Although Ubersuggest does not allow you to track folders as separate projects, you can still analyze them by entering their URLs directly into the search bar within the Traffic Overview section and the Site Audit feature.
For example, if you want to review a folder such as neilpatel.com/blog, simply enter that URL. Ubersuggest will then display data specific to the page or folder you searched.
The Traffic Overview report shows key insights such as estimated traffic, top pages, and referring domains for any website or domain you analyze.
The Site Audit report evaluates the overall SEO health of the folder or page you enter. It identifies on-page SEO score, organic monthly traffic, organic keywords, backlinks, and SEO issues. You’ll also receive clear, actionable recommendations to help improve performance.
Can I Track GSC and GA Data at the Subdomain Level?
Yes. Once you add a subdomain URL as a project in Ubersuggest, you can connect Google Analytics and Google Search Console to that project.
Important: The subdomain must have its own independent properties set up in GSC and GA. A root domain property will not capture data for the subdomain.
