Payment declines can happen for a variety of reasons, and understanding them is key to resolving the issue quickly. In this article, you’ll learn the most common causes of payment declines.
Insufficient Funds
This occurs when there aren't enough funds in your account to cover the transaction. Make sure you check your balance and ensure it’s sufficient for the payment. If needed, transfer funds to your account before trying again.
Incorrect Card/Account Details
If you’ve entered your card number, expiration date, or CVV incorrectly, the payment will fail. Double-check all card information to ensure it's correct and then submit the payment again.
Expired Card
If your debit or credit card has expired, the transaction will fail. Update your payment method with a valid card or contact your bank to renew your card. You can find more information about accepted payment methods in our Payment Types FAQ.
Card Not Activated
Some cards need to be activated for online transactions. If this applies to you, contact your card issuer or use the bank’s app to activate it.
Issues with the Merchant’s Payment Gateway
Sometimes, there may be technical issues with the payment system on the merchant’s end. If that happens, try again later or reach out to the merchant for assistance.
Cross-Border Transactions
If your card isn’t enabled for international transactions, you may need to contact the card issuer to activate this feature.
Transaction Limit Exceeded
If you've exceeded your card’s daily transaction limit, the payment will be declined. Contact your card issuer to request a limit increase, or try the transaction again the following day.
Suspicious Activity
Your card may have been flagged for suspicious activity, causing the transaction to be declined. Contact your card issuer to verify the activity and resolve any issues.
Connectivity Issues
A poor internet connection on your end or technical issues with the bank’s servers can disrupt the transaction. Check your connection or try again later. If the problem persists, contact your bank for help.
Bank’s Technical Issues
Sometimes, technical difficulties at your bank can temporarily block transactions. Wait a while and try again, or contact your bank for an update.
Blocked Card
Your card may have been temporarily blocked due to multiple failed payment attempts. Contact your card issuer to unblock it and verify the transactions.
Obsolete Technology
Older cards that don’t have chip technology may not be accepted by some merchants. If you’re using an outdated card, consider upgrading to a newer one by contacting your card issuer.
Declined by Issuing Bank
The payment may have been declined by your bank for internal reasons or risk assessments. Contact your bank or card issuer to get more information and guidance. If the issue persists, consider using a different card or payment method.
3D Secure
3D Secure, or 3DS, is a security feature developed by Visa and MasterCard to make online credit and debit card transactions safer. It requires you to enter a one-time password (OTP) before the payment goes through.
However, not all merchants, including Ubersuggest, currently support 3D Secure. This can lead to payment declines for customers whose cards require an OTP for online purchases, especially for subscription-based services where automated payments are common.
RBI Regulations
In India, online subscriptions are affected by RBI e-mandate regulations, which often block international card payments even when the card is valid. That’s why your recent payment attempt may have failed.
To solve this, we can arrange a manual invoice so you can complete the payment outside of the automated system. Just contact us via chat or e-mail by clicking on the Help button.
Exploring Alternatives
If you continue to experience payment decline issues, using PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay as an alternative could help, if it is available in your country. They are widely accepted, offer robust security, and may improve your overall transaction experience.
